Kyle S. Short for Farmington R-7 School Board

Meet Kyle S. Short

Candidate for Farmington R-7 School Board

Kyle S. Short

About the Candidate

Kyle S. Short is a longtime community member, business owner, and public servant who believes strong schools are the foundation of a strong community. His decision to run for school board is primarily due to his great concern for the lack of safety and security in our schools to properly protect our children and staff.  Kyle explains that our children and staff members are at risk due to the numerous security vulnerabilities of our campuses.  In addition, he wants to focus on budgetary issues negatively affecting teachers, staff, and students to enable the school district to provide the highest level of education possible for our students.

Kyle’s professional background includes decades of experience in leadership roles that required sound judgment, fiscal responsibility, and clear communication. As a business owner and executive, he has overseen budgets, managed teams, built large organizations, and made long-term planning decisions—skills that directly translate to effective school board governance. His experience has reinforced the importance of accountability, transparency, and making decisions that balance immediate needs with long-term outcomes.

In addition to his business experience, Kyle’s service in public safety as a police officer provided him with firsthand insight into the challenges facing families, youth, and schools. Working closely with community members taught him the value of prevention, mentorship, and strong partnerships between schools and the broader community.  While attending college early in his career, Kyle also worked as a substitute teacher for five years allowing him first-hand experience working with children and other educators in the classroom.

Kyle has also been actively involved in civic and volunteer organizations for many years, supporting youth programs, community initiatives, and service-based efforts. This involvement has strengthened his belief that schools thrive when parents, educators, community leaders, and local organizations work together with mutual respect and a shared sense of purpose.

As a parent, Kyle has a deep personal connection to the school district. He has had four children graduate from the district, two students still attending, and at risk youth he has mentored through their school career into adulthood.  This firsthand experience gives him a clear understanding of both the successes and challenges facing students, families, and educators, and it reinforces his commitment to policies that support safe classrooms, strong academics, and student opportunity.

Kyle believes school board members should serve as thoughtful stewards—not politicians—focused on solutions rather than agendas. He is committed to listening to parents, supporting educators, and asking hard questions when decisions affect student safety, academic outcomes, or taxpayer resources. Kyle approaches leadership with respect, preparation, and the willingness to work across differences to do what is right for students and the community.

As a Farmington R-7 School Board Member, Kyle S. Short will focus on supporting students and teachers, maintaining responsible stewardship of district resources, and fostering open transparent communication with families and the community. He is committed to practical, common-sense leadership and to making decisions that put students’ safety and education first while preparing them for success beyond the classroom.
